Terms of use

The agreement for using the VOLTA website and estimator, in plain language.

The short version

  • VOLTA produces planning estimates. You review every number before it goes in a bid; the bid is yours.
  • 30-day free trial, then $9.99 CAD a month plus applicable tax. Cancel any time from your account page; access runs to the end of the period you have paid for.
  • Your drawings and projects are yours and stay on your device.
  • Don't share your login, resell the service or try to get around the access check.

1. Agreement

These terms are an agreement between you and VOLTA Electrical Estimating ("VOLTA", "we", "us"), based in British Columbia, Canada. By using voltaelectric.ca or the estimator app you accept them. If you are using VOLTA for a company, you confirm you are allowed to accept these terms on its behalf. How we handle personal information is explained separately in our privacy policy.

2. What VOLTA is

VOLTA is a browser-based estimating tool for electrical contractors. It reads drawing PDFs on your device, drafts quantities from what it finds and from adjustable defaults, applies the rates and factors you set, and produces a priced estimate and quote documents. Every quantity, rate and factor can be changed by you, and is meant to be.

3. Your account

You need an account to use the estimator. Give us a working email address, keep your password to yourself and tell us promptly if you think someone else is using your account. You are responsible for what happens under your login. One login is for one person; a shop with several estimators should set up a subscription for each.

4. Trial, price and billing

New accounts get a 30-day free trial. A card is required to start it, secured by Stripe, and nothing is charged during the trial. When the trial ends the subscription bills $9.99 CAD per month plus applicable tax and renews monthly until you cancel. You can cancel at any time from Your account & billing → Manage billing; you keep access until the end of the period you have already paid for, and we do not refund partial months except where the law requires. Failed payments pause access until the card is updated.

5. Your content

Drawings, project data, company details and quotes you produce are yours. We claim no rights in them. The estimator processes drawings inside your browser and your project is saved in that browser's storage; we do not receive it, and we cannot recover it for you if it is lost — save project files as a backup.

6. Fair use

Please don't: share or resell access; copy, scrape or reverse-engineer the service; try to bypass the access check or interfere with the site; or use VOLTA for anything unlawful. We can suspend or close accounts that do, without refund.

7. Estimates are not professional advice

VOLTA's figures are planning estimates generated from adjustable defaults and analysis of drawing text. They are a starting point for a qualified estimator, not a substitute for one. VOLTA is not an engineer, electrical contractor or code authority, and does not guarantee that a quantity, rate, code interpretation or total is correct, complete or suitable for a particular bid. You are responsible for checking quantities against the drawings, confirming rates and taxes for your market, meeting applicable codes, and for any bid, quote or contract you submit. Reference data such as wage figures may be out of date at any time.

8. Availability and changes

We work to keep VOLTA available and improving, and we may add, change or retire features. We do not promise uninterrupted or error-free service. Where we can, we will give notice of changes that remove something you rely on.

9. Warranty and liability

VOLTA is provided as is. To the fullest extent the law allows, we make no warranties, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose, and we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses — including lost profits, lost bids, or the cost of a job priced from an estimate — arising from your use of the service. Where liability cannot be excluded, our total liability to you is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim. Nothing here limits rights that consumer law gives you and that cannot be waived.

10. Ending the agreement

You can stop using VOLTA and close your account at any time by cancelling your subscription and emailing us to delete the account. We can end the agreement if you break these terms, or if we retire the service.

11. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of British Columbia and the federal laws of Canada that apply there. Disputes will be dealt with in the courts of British Columbia, unless the law where you live gives you the right to something else.

12. Changes and contact

We may update these terms; the effective date at the top will change and account holders will be emailed about material changes before they apply. Continuing to use VOLTA after that means you accept the new terms. Questions go to info@voltaelectric.ca.
